How to choose high-quality batteries

How to judge the quality of battery cells
  • Observe whether the appearance of the lithium battery is complete, free of cracks, clean, rust-free, bulging, leaking, etc. If there are any of the above problems, it means there is a problem with the quality of the battery or improper storage, which may pose a safety hazard.
  • Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the lithium battery. The normal voltage should be between 2.8V and 3.6V. If the voltage is too low or too high, the battery may be damaged or aged.
  • Use an internal resistance tester or multimeter to test the internal resistance of the lithium battery. The internal resistance should be less than 100mΩ. Generally speaking, the smaller the internal resistance, the better the performance of the battery core. The larger the internal resistance, the worse the performance of the battery core. It is related to the discharge current and the temperature. Generally, the internal resistance of lithium batteries is best around 0.3. The internal resistance, static internal resistance and working internal resistance of lithium iron phosphate batteries are often different. In different environments and temperatures, the internal resistance also changes.
  • Conduct a charge and discharge test on the battery, record the battery’s capacity, efficiency, temperature rise and other data, and compare it with the nominal value or new battery. If the difference is large, the battery quality is poor.
  • Conduct a cycle life test on the battery, repeat charging and discharging several times, and observe the battery’s capacity decay curve. If the decay rate is fast, it indicates that the battery life is short.
  • Conduct safety tests on batteries to simulate extreme conditions such as overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, puncture, extrusion, and high temperature to check whether the battery suffers from thermal runaway, combustion, or explosion. If this occurs, the battery is of poor safety.

How to choose battery cells

Choose well-known brand lithium batteries. Generally speaking, the quality and performance of brand-name batteries are guaranteed to a certain extent. However, some unknown batteries may have problems such as unstable quality, false capacity, and short service life.
